Bra style guide
Your guide to different bra styles
There are so many different styles of bra available it can sometimes be a little confusing! Here’s our handy bra style guide.
Underwired bra
Most modern looking bras are underwired bras. This means that the underside of the bra cups as a gentle wire inside the fabric which helps give great shape and support – especially for women with a bigger bust.
Non-wired bra
Non-wired bras are also referred to as wire-free bras or soft cup bras. These don’t have an underwire and instead rely on the shape and structure of the fabric for support.
Full cup bra
Full cup bras completely enclose the breasts and come up a little higher than other bras. This makes them very supportive but not always suitable for wearing with lower cut clothes.
Three quarter cup bra
Three quarter cup bras provide less coverage than a full cup bra, so they look more fashionable whilst still being supportive.
Balconette bra
Balconette bras are cut so that there is more of a horizontal line across the top of the cups. This makes them perfect for wearing with square cut or scoop neck tops.
Strapless bra
Strapless bras are sometimes known as bandeau bras. They go around the body, supporting the bust without any shoulder straps, perfect for wearing with boob tube tops and strapless dresses.
Multiway bra
Multiway bras have straps that can be altered or completely detached to suit different types of outfit. Most can be worn as a halterneck or crossover back. Some can be worn with asymmetric straps or even strapless.
Minimiser bra
Minimiser bras redistribute the breast tissue to make the bust appear smaller or less prominent. If you have a big bust they can help make some clothes fit better, such as button up shirt and blouses.
Sports bra
It’s so important to get the right support when exercising, especially when you have a big bust. A sports bra is non-wired bra, usually with padded shoulder straps that helps minimise bounce when you’re running or working out.
Seamfree bra
Seamfree bras usually have moulded foam cups made all in a single piece. This means that they give you a smooth outline without any ridges form your bra.
Support bra
A support bra is a type of wire free bra with very structured cups for excellent support. One example is the Triumph Doreen brassiere.
Push up bras
Push-up bras are designed to push your breasts up and together, giving you an amazing cleavage. Perfect for big nights out!
